Planning Division - Environmental

The City encourages the preservation, restoration, and improvement of the natural environment and encourages all residents and businesses to explore ways to contribute to those means. The City is required to implement federal and state statutes concerning the environment.

The City is also committed to the concept of a sustainable urban environment and weighs the merits and costs of its environmental actions with other important demands, such as public safety and recreation, public infrastructure, housing, and economic development. Most land development activity will be subject to a certain level of environmental review.

The Planning Department will guide you through the following requirements.

  • The State Environmental Protection Act (SEPA)
  • Critical Area Review (e.g. wetlands, steep slopes, etc.)
  • Archaeological Review
  • Shoreline Master Program
