Taxi/Chauffeur

All businesses located within the city limits whose service is to provide vehicles for hire (including limousines, taxicabs, and/or vans) must obtain a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity. An application can be obtained online or in person, and then the completed form must be submitted to the Finance Department.

Upon submission of a completed application, a public hearing will be set whereupon the City Council will issue a decision for approval or denial of the application.

If approved, the applicant will be required to provide proof of insurance, submit all vehicles for police inspection, submit vehicle logos and/or designs for approval, and pay a $35 license fee with an additional $10 fee per vehicle. If approval or renewal is completed after July 1st, the fees would be pro-rated to half for the year.

Certificates expire at 11:59pm on December 31st of each calendar year. Renewal of a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity requires updated proof of insurance, re-inspection of vehicles by the police, and $35 license fee with the additional $10 fee per vehicle.

Chauffeurs/drivers of vehicles for hire must also obtain a license to operate such vehicles. Applications for a taxicab driver’s license can be obtained online or in person at the Finance Department in City Hall, and then the completed form must be submitted to the Finance Department.

Submitted taxicab driver’s license applications must include three recent photographs (passport size of 2”x2”) and a non-refundable fee of $5. Applicants will also be required to be fingerprinted at the Police Department at the time of application submission.

Taxicab driver’s licenses expire at 11:59pm on December 31st of each calendar year. Renewal applications for taxicab operations should be submitted to the Finance Department prior to December 15th for consideration for the succeeding calendar year, and must be accompanied by the non-refundable $5 fee.

Submitting an application for a Certificate of Convenience or Necessity or taxicab driver’s license, or picking up the certificate/license itself can only be done in person at the Finance Department in City Hall. Payment can be made with cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card.
